We just purchased a 2023 Outlander PHEV SE and found curious storage area behind the second seat. When the 3rd row seat is folded into storage position (flat floor), the space in front of it and behind the 2nd row seat has an access lid to a shallow storage area. What is the purpose of this 'storage' area? I put the power cord in there, but when we went to secure the 3rd row seat, CRACK! the hinge on that storage lid broke. I have since repaired with push rivets...

Any other experiences with this curious storage area?

As you realise by now, it is NOT setup as usable "storage area" - just space for the 3rd row seat to fold over when flipped in. The lid allows for a flat boot when the 3rd row is stowed, and to minimise the chances of stuff accumulating and getting squished there ...
