I drove my brand-new 2023 Outlander PHEV home from the dealership today (like, an hour ago). Partway through the drive I erroneously hit the "-" paddle behind the steering wheel. I immediately saw a "EV Priority Mode is Disabled" message on the dash.
Yikes!

Now I don't know how to re-enable it.

When I turn the car off and turn it back on, the car doesn't default to EV mode (what I presume is called the "priority mode"), so I have to push the EV button to go into EV mode. Which I don't want to have to do every single time I start the car.

Surely, there's got to be a way to re-set the EV mode as priority/default.

Can anyone help? I'm less than 10 miles of driving into my ownership of this car, and I can't believe that I'm already stuck with a workaround to get it started in EV mode.

If the battery has a higher charge than 60%, adjusting a the paddle shifters to higher than default B2 will turn the engine on to use up the extra charge from the regen braking. This then turns off EV priority mode. You can get it back by putting the paddle shifter back to B2. This should not happen when the battery is below 60% as that is when it will accept the energy from the regen braking. The manual notes this happens when higher than B2 is used when the battery has a high state of charge.

Thanks very much for sharing this. I've figured out how to return back to normal but still soooooo many questions re: owning a PHEV for the first time (eg. when I start my car does it default to start in EV mode or gas mode? can I use an extension cord with the regular cable that came with the car? is there a reason both gas mileage remaining and battery mileage remaining decrease when I'm driving in EV mode?...) ... I find the Mitsubishi handbook completely user-unfriendly; do you have a particular site you'd recommend to find these and other future answers?

I think it depends on drive battery temperature and heat/ac setting, which calls on the ICE to provide the needed instant energy to run these systems. In the winter it will start the ICE. You can force EV on start up by pushing the start button with your foot off the brake, select EV mode, then start the car with foot on brake
can I use an extension cord with the regular cable that came with the car?
yes, make sure it is at least 14 gauge

not sure if you mean the combined total mileage indicator on the bottom right? If so, being a combined range, if the battery is being depleted it will also decrease the combined range.

experience and forums. There is a dealer in BC that has a more user friendly site that I saved as a pdf. It's kind of like the PHEV owner's handbook. Try doing a search for 2023 PHEV owners handbook
