For any Australians out there, the 2020 Outlander has been recalled for a seatbelt failure.

Mitsubishi Australia has issued a recall for a total of 1948 cars, citing an incorrectly assembled seat belt anchor on the rear right seat of the current generation Outlander SUV.

Both the regular petrol-powered models and plug-in-hybrid variants have been affected, the company says.

A spokesperson for Mitsubishi Australia told CarAdvice the problem stemmed from the right rear seats being fitted with shoulder anchors designed for the left side of the car.

“This is simply a click-out-click-in procedure,” the spokesperson said.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the fault could cause the occupant to be improperly restrained in the case of an accident.

Mitsubishi’s spokesperson said no cases of malfunction had been recorded in Australia, but confirmed customers with affected cars will be contacted as a precaution.

The recalled cars were sold between July 31, 2019 and March 31, 2020.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 1,948 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
