Questions / Observations about my 2023 Outlander PHEV

Hi all,

New to the forum here. I have been driving of my new 2023 Outlander PHEV SE Tech for a month now here in Southern California and I have the following questions / observations.
  1. Mitsubishi website says all models come with grille shutter. However, I looked into my front bumper grille and I don't see any active motorized shutters. I believe I saw it on another car when I was at the dealer, but that could be an SEL. Do any of you have grille shutters?
  2. The website also says hands-free power liftgate. I thought it meant it has the kick sensor under the bumper, but my car doesn't have it. Is it just an SEL exclusive feature? I guess using the remote counts as hands free?
  3. I discovered that there is a velcro strap that minimizes the 3rd row seat from bouncing up and down when going over speed bumps.
  4. The car has no problem driving around in EV mode in almost all conditions. The only issue I observed was when driving the 241 toll road south climbing the long uphill at 70-75 mph, the engine kicked in even though I had over 50% charge. The battery doesn't seem to like sustained high speed hill climbs and may be trying to protect itself from high load conditions.
  5. My car has developed an annoying creaking sound somewhere in the dash on the passenger side. Has anyone got a similar issue?
  6. My car is leased through Santander, to take advantage of the EV tax credit. If I were to buy out the car at the end of the lease, will the full powertrain warranty be retained? The warranty booklet says the the 10/100 powertrain warranty applies only to original owner and technically the bank owns the car.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

The trim levels are a bit different in canada. But only the top trim (which is called GT here) has the kick sensor for the tailgate. There was no mention of grille shutters anywhere that I recall, could be a US thing?
I will be poking around the trunk today to see if I can find that strap for the seats!

edit: it does mention active grille shutters in the brochure, I will have to check mine out

But that is a different brochure than is on the canadian website so maybe it didnt make it in

^ that is for the ICE Outlander, not the PHEV. OP, check the fine print on the Mitsu website re: all models to see if PHEV is excluded.
Regarding the hand-free liftgate, I was told by my dealer that there was chip shortage, and only higher level trims got the kick liftgate. I was wondering the same thing on my SE and posed the question. I believe the owners manual mentions the engine starting in EV mode under high load conditions.
When I leased my Kia Niro PHEV, they said the full remainder of the warranty passes on to you if you buy it out early or at the end of the lease. You are considered the original owner.

From the warranty book: "
The 'original owner' is defined as the first retail purchaser
of the Vehicle who took delivery of the eligible
Vehicle on its original in-service date. This original
owner designation will also apply if the Vehicle was
first placed in lease service and is purchased at the
end of the lease by original lessee."
Thanks for everyone’s responses! Good to know that the warranty will be kept if I buy out my lease.

For the grille shutter, it does say it is standard under the specs page on the Mitsu website for PHEV. (I haven’t figured out how to insert a screenshot from my phone yet lol)

I see it on the US webpage, but not on the canadian site. Could you take a pic of the grill on your outlander if you ever get a chance? I can't find any images of what it should look like online...

I finally figured out how to attach photos from my phone. I snapped a couple of photos of how it looks like inside my lower grille.

Oh that looks the same as mine! I wonder what the "active" part is?

Nothing is active in the grille. I think it was just a typo on the Mitsubishi website.

I assumed it was just the marketing term for the styling.
Active grilles close and open to direct air-flow.
