Trailer Hitch

Hi Members
I have a 2023 PHEV SEL AWD and really do enjoy the SUV. I can see we are all waiting for a trailer hitch and wiring harness. I called two dealers and they are waiting, estimated time June to be available from Mitsubishi Canada. Question why does UHAUL offer it installed on their website in Canada? Also has anyone had it installed?

The website is probably inaccurate. They probably just ported over the 2023 ICE outlander into the PHEV page. My third party hitch retailer ordered one in the winter and a week later it arrived. Surprised I asked if it was specifically for the 2023 PHEV. They said yup. After bringing the car in for installation they said it didn't fit.

I'm guessing the UHAUL site is not accurate at this time.

Installed myself this morning, easy, you need 3/4 key, and long 13mm socket, took les than an hour

I am thinking the same, I called Mitsubishi they indicated in June. I called a few dealers same answer. I will wait till the dealer has it by then sure lots of third party will also have the correct wiring harness and hitch specs

Did we install this UHAUL one on a PHEV 2023 AWS? so the electric motor and 1500W AC plug are located in the back with no issues? Any modifications to make it work?

Clearance is all good, the brand is Curt, I suspect U-Haul sells the same, for wiring, with this one no wire cutting needed

They list it because it does indeed fit, mitsu’s hold up in canada is crash testing still i believe. I have the curt 13487 on our phev, as well as the curt 56457 plug in harness. Works perfect.
I was told it should be Curt56434, which is strange as the origianl aplication is Rav4, listed in their applicaation guide
ordered that one, will follow up this weekend

This what I got from Curt website CLASS 3 TRAILER HITCH, 2" RECEIVER, SELECT MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER 13566
I was talking about the wiring kit
Gotcha thanks good to know
So I confirm Curt 56434 is the correct part number for PHEV
See picture of the tail light connector compared to the curt

I did modify the harness as it is made to be installed on the left side, but since the PHEV battery is located on the rear right side, it is easier to install the module there

I swapped the green and yellow wires on the Curt harness, to invert the position of the right and left blinker

Also note, if you unplug the battery with the electric tailgate open, you will have to close it manually, as it seems to have loste It's position when reconnecting the battery and will not operate.

Any hitch receiver available now was made for the ICE version and is not the redesigned model made specifically and certified for use on the PHEV.

The difference? In crash testing, the ICE version failed (multiple times I believe?), it was supposed to be ready prior to launch. From what a Mitsubishi tech had to say a while ago on another forum... it supposedly punctured something it shouldn't or caused other parts to puncture something... I don't remember if it was the gas tank or traction battery or what.

Anyway, I'm holding off until the crash tested, certified version for the PHEV is available. I'm no insurance expert so I'm not sure what the ramifications are if you get in an accident and your vehicle is written off or requires extensive repairs from an accessory that wasn't authorized for use on the vehicle, but I'm not taking that risk.

Does the hitch create any problems for the foot activated rear hatch sensor? I.e. can you still open it with your foot?

The Curt one does not
